The Counter Clockwise Everest Three Passes Trek via Renjo-La, Cho-La, and Khongma-La Pass is an ambitious trekking route in the Everest region of Nepal. This trek offers breathtaking views of some of the highest mountains in the world, including Mt. Everest, Cho-Oyu, Lhotse, Nuptse, Pumori, and Ama Dablam.
The trek starts with a flight from Kathmandu to Lukla, followed by a trek to Phakding. From there, the trail continues to Namche Bazaar, the gateway to Everest Base Camp. At Namche Bazaar, trekkers take a rest day for acclimatization, exploring the Sherpa Museum and nearby villages. After acclimatization, the trek proceeds to Tengboche, known for its magnificent monastery and stunning views of Everest, Ama Dablam, and other peaks. From Tengboche, the trail leads to Dingboche, a summer valley and the highest Sherpa settlement in the Khumbu region.
The trek then heads to Chhukung, followed by a challenging ascent to Kongma-La Pass at an altitude of 5,535 meters. After crossing the pass, trekkers reach Lobuche and continue towards Gorakshep, the last village before Everest Base Camp. A hike to Everest Base Camp and Kala Patthar, a popular viewpoint, offers incredible panoramic views of the surrounding mountains. From Gorakshep, the trek descends to Lobuche village and then to Dzongla. The next day, trekkers cross the challenging Cho-La Pass at 5,368 meters and reach Gokyo village. The Gokyo region is known for its beautiful lakes and stunning Himalayan views. A rest day in Gokyo allows for exploration of Gokyo Ri, a viewpoint offering a 360-degree panorama of the mountains.
The trek continues to Marlung via the Renjo-La Pass at an altitude of 5,360 meters. From Marlung, the trail descends through picturesque landscapes, traditional villages, and lush forests back to Lukla. Finally, a flight from Lukla takes trekkers back to Kathmandu, where the trek concludes.
This trek is classified as strenuous and requires good physical fitness and acclimatization. The best seasons for this trek are March to May and September to November. It is essential to be well-prepared with proper trekking gear and to follow the guidance of experienced guides and porters to ensure a safe and enjoyable trekking experience.
