Rara Lake Jumla Trekking takes you to up into the high altitude lake area of Rara, which combines the beauty of spruce and pine forest with spectacular views of the surrounding hills and mountains. This is Nepal’s largest lake, which houses otters and many fish species. This is one of the best treks to view Nepal’s wildlife including the Himalayan bear. This area is one of the least inhabited trekking routes, which will give you a feel for the natural environment of Nepal. Pristine Rara Lake, known as the Queen of Lakes, is the largest lake in Nepal. Surrounded by juniper and spruce forests of Rara Lake National Park in the western part of the country, it is a high altitude lake at 9,834 feet (2,980 m). The trekking route is not heavily traveled, but it passes through a region that affords cultural interactions and scenery quite different from the rest of Nepal. You may meet followers of Hinduism as well as immigrant Tibetan families.

Trekking in this area involves a great deal of up-and-down walking through forests and isolated villages. You remain mostly at lower elevations, reaching a high elevation of 12,243 feet (3,710 m) at Danfe pass.

You can spend two days at Baridiya National Park, where you can take an elephant-back safari through the lush jungle. Your accommodations are well-equipped tents.

Itinerary

  1. Day 01 Arrival at Kathmandu.

    You will be welcomed by our staff standing with your name card at the airport arrival terminal and transferred to your hotel by a private vehicle. Your hotel is in the middle of the city. You will have nothing planned for the day, so take a rest and gather the energy to walk on the trails. Else, if you have some personal gears to buy, you can go shopping in the Market in the evening. You will spend a night in a hotel.

  2. Day 02 Kathmandu Valley sightseeing and trek preparation, Permits Procedure (1,300m/4,264 ft)

    After breakfast, there are then several ways you can spend your day given the numerous famous sights around Kathmandu. Kathmandu has a special atmosphere during the early morning hours when the city is slowly coming to life yet not too chaotic. You can use this as a free day or we can provide a local English-speaking guide who knows the city well and can explain the history and significance of the sights.
    Optional Day Tours Sacred Sites of the Valley (Full day): Swayambhunath, Pashupatinath, and Patan Durbar Square. This is a full-day tour and you'll stop for lunch at a local restaurant during the day.
    Boudhanath (1 hour): A UNESCO World Heritage Site and the world's largest spherical stupa (Buddhist shrine). Check out the site's numerous monasteries, as well as an enormous adorned statue of Maitreya Buddha.
    Pashupatinath (1 hour): The most sacred of all Hindu temples in Nepal, located on the holy Bagmati River. This is a large temple complex where you can easily spend an hour exploring.
    Bhaktapur (3 hours): A 30-minute drive outside of Kathmandu is the ancient city of Bhaktapur, home of medieval art and wood carving. Founded in the 9th century, visit the town's narrow alleys and observe villagers going about their day-to-day life.
    Everest Mountain Flight (1 hour): A unique opportunity, consider taking a mountain flight to see Mount Everest (one hour).
    Shivapuri National Park (half-day): Go hiking or mountain biking in this scenic national park located on the northern fringe of Kathmandu Valley. There are hundreds of species of flora and fauna, including medicinal herbs, as well as historical and religious sites.
    Evening Trip Briefing However you choose to spend your day, you'll return to your hotel in Kathmandu in the early evening and meet your specialist (or one of their staff members) who will go over details of your trip, including what to expect and transport logistics.

  3. Day 03 Fly from Kathmandu to Nepalgunj (150 m/490 ft) ( 1 hr)

    After breakfast, you have time for a few hours for the preparation of trekking. Our trekking guide will meet you at the hotel. Then you will be transferred to the domestic terminal of Kathmandu airport. Then you board a flight from Kathmandu to Nepalgunj. It’s one hour flight. After you land at Nepalgunj airport you will drive to your hotel. Overnight at hotel.

  4. Day 04 Fly to Jumla 2,540 m then trek to Chauriya Chaur 3,055 – (05 hrs).

    Early breakfast for another short connecting flight to Jumla, on reaching Jumla after 40 minutes on air, received by our trekking staff that has travelled here taking a long overland drive and walks, Jumla main headquarters town of Jumla district. From Jumla start the trek with a short climb walking past nice farm villages to reach our first overnight camp at Chauriya Chaur a nice farm village on route Rara Lake.

  5. Day 05 Chere Chaur to Chalachaur (2980 m/9,777 ft) (5-6 hrs)

    After breakfast, you’ll follow the western trails and make a slow ascend through beautiful rhododendron, birch, and pine forests to the place called Jaljala Pass (3,580 meters). Jaljala Pass offers a stupendous view of Kanjiroba Himal. You’ll cross this pass and continue your trek through a pristine trail. After a couple of hours, you’ll reach a summer grazing pasture called as Jaljala Chaur. After 5-6 hours of walking, you’ll enter the main Rara CIrcuit trail and reach Chala Chaur (2,980 meters) for an overnight stay.

  6. Day 06 Chalachaur to Sinja Valley (2490 m/ 8167 ft)

    The trek to Sinja follows the Jaljal Khola downstream through a scenic landscape of terraced fields, pine-clad slopes, and an imposing gorge. Sinja itself hosts the remains of a haunting old temple and numerous other artefacts that are well worth exploring.

  7. Day 07 Sinja to Ghorosingha (3050 m/10007 ft) Tea House Accommodation.

    As the walk progress, our walk today is only for half day of three to four hours, as the morning walk starts after leaving Sinja Khola and then follows another stream of Ghatte Khola towards North- Eastwards towards a short uphill, then coming at the pretty small valley and into farmlands with primitive water mills which is used for grinding corns, wheat’s into fine flour for bread, from here reaching our overnight camp on the border rim of Rara National Park at a small village of Ghorasain, this place with a police post, after the camp is set, afternoon free for a short walk around and just relax and catch up with the dairy.

  8. Day 08 Ghorosingha to Rara Lake (3010 m/9876 ft) (6-7 hrs)

    We walk quite early after breakfast. We climb up to Chichhemara hill, which is a wonderful viewpoint of the surrounding Himalayas and the dream zone of the tranquil Rara Lake. Rara National Park has given its youth diverse vegetation. Passing the Murma village, we climb up to the Chapri village and finally reach our final destination. The beautiful queen of the Lakes, Rara is in front of us.

  9. Day 09 Explore Rara Lake to explore the beauty of the lake

    We have allocated the whole day to explore our beautiful destination. We will walk around the lake which will take around 8 hours and rest for some time. We will visit the old village of Rara and climb up the observation tower behind the postal office for an even more beautiful view of the serene lake and surrounding peaks and hills.

  10. Day 10 Rara Lake to Pina (2440 m/ 8006 ft)( 5-6 hours)

    From Rara Lake our trail is easy and we walk on a relatively straight path until Gamgadhi which is the headquarters of the remote Mugu District of Nepal. From Gamgadhi, we descend on a steep trail to Pina Village where we spend the night.

  11. Day 11 Pina to Bumra (2850 m/9351 ft) (5-6 hrs)

    After having breakfast you’ll leave Pina for Burma. The trail is downhill and leads through Ghurchi Langna Pass at an altitude of 3,480 meters. This is the highest point of the trek. You can see colourful prayer flags and from the top of the pass, you can see the beautiful Karnali river. After enjoying the view, you’ll continue your trek down to Bulbule. From Bulbule, you’ll move towards the south and continue through the small settlement around Chautha. After 5-6 hours of walking, you’ll reach a beautiful village in Burma (2,850 meters) for an overnight stay. This village is also called Nauru Ghat.

  12. Day 12 Bumra to Jumla (2540 m/8334 ft) (5-6 hrs)

    On our final day trek back to Jumla of this wonderful trip, we cross two suspension bridges above the Hima River and walk downhill. After walking for a few hours, we get to a hot spring where we can ease our aching bodies with a dip. Not long after the hot spring, we cross the Danphe Lagna pass at 3691 m. After reaching Cherechaur, we follow the same trail we took a couple of days back and reach Jumla.

  13. Day 13 Fly back to Kathmandu via Nepalgunj.

    Morning as per the flight time to Nepalgunj transfer to Jumla airstrip after bidding fare well to our camping staff and porters, a short scenic flight brings your south to Nepalgunj for a short transit stop and then fly back to Kathmandu with panorama views of mountains during airborne and then on reaching at Kathmandu domestic airport transfer back to your hotels with afternoon free at leisure.

  14. Day 14 Final departure

    Breakfast at the hotel. Free & easy until the representative of our team will transfer you to the airport and depart to your own country.
