The Mardi Himal Trek is a hidden treasure in the Annapurna region, offering a picturesque and less-crowded trail. Located east of the renowned Annapurna Base Camp trek, this trek takes you to the base camp of Mardi Himal and provides breathtaking views of the iconic Machapuchhre (Fishtail) mountain, as well as the Mardi Himal and Annapurna peaks.
The journey begins with a scenic drive from Pokhara to Kande, followed by a trek to Pitan Deurali via Australian Camp and Pothana. As you ascend, you'll pass through beautiful valleys such as Pitam Deurali and Badal Danda, adorned with vibrant rhododendron jungles, until you reach an elevation of approximately 3,300 meters.
The trek continues to Forest Camp and Low Camp, offering opportunities to immerse yourself in the serene natural surroundings. From Low Camp, the trail leads to High Camp at 3,550 meters, where you'll be treated to spectacular views of Machhapuchhre and Annapurna South.
One of the highlights of the trek is the hike to Mardi Himal Base Camp, situated at an altitude of 4,500 meters. The mesmerizing views from the base camp make the challenging trek worthwhile. Alternatively, you can hike to a viewpoint halfway and return to High Camp.
Afterwards, the trek descends to Badal Danda, providing further opportunities to appreciate the stunning landscapes. Finally, you trek down to Siding and return to Pokhara by a scenic drive.
Throughout the trek, you'll encounter authentic Pun and Gurung tribal villages, offering insights into the local culture and traditions. The blooming rhododendron forests add vibrant colours to the journey, especially during the months of March and April.
