Jomsom Muktinath Trek is a captivating journey that offers diverse landscapes, cultural experiences, and spiritual fulfilment. The trek begins with a scenic drive from Kathmandu to Pokhara, where you can explore the beautiful lakeside city. From there, the trek officially starts at Nayapul, following the Modi River and passing through charming villages like Tikhe Dhunga and Ghorepani. The highlight of Ghorepani is the early morning hike to Poon Hill, where you can witness breathtaking sunrise views over the Annapurna and Dhaulagiri Mountain ranges.

Continuing the journey, you'll trek through picturesque landscapes, including bamboo forests, terraced fields, and scenic farmlands. The trail takes you to Ghasa, Tukche, Kagbeni, and finally to the sacred pilgrimage site of Muktinath, known for its ancient temple and stunning mountain views.

Throughout the trek, you'll have the opportunity to admire the snow-covered peaks of Annapurna, Dhaulagiri, Nilgiri, and more. You'll also encounter the rich culture of the Gurung, Magar, and Thakali ethnic groups, known for their unique traditions and warm hospitality.

After reaching Jomsom, the trek concludes with a flight back to Pokhara, where you can relax and enjoy the beauty of the lakeside city. From there, you can either take a flight back to Kathmandu or spend an additional day exploring Pokhara.

The Jomsom Muktinath Trek offers a perfect blend of natural beauty, cultural immersion, and spiritual experiences. It is a moderate-grade trek suitable for a group size ranging from a minimum of 2 to a maximum of 20 people. The highest point of the trek is 3,800 meters, and the best seasons to undertake this adventure are March to May and September to December.

Please note that the cost of the trek includes airport transfers, domestic flights, accommodation, meals during the trek, experienced guides and porters, necessary permits, and government taxes. However, it does not cover meals in Kathmandu and Pokhara, personal expenses, travel insurance, international airfare, and other items not mentioned in the inclusion list.

Itinerary

  1. Day 01 Arrival at Kathmandu.

    You will be welcomed by our staff standing with your name card in the airport arrival terminal and transferred to your hotel by a private vehicle. Your hotel is in the middle of the city. You will have nothing planned for the day, so take a rest and gather the energy to walk on the trails. Else, if you have some personal gears to buy, you can go shopping in the Market in the evening. There will be a small meeting about the trek in the evening. You will spend a night in a hotel.

  2. Day 02 Kathmandu | trek preparation, Permits Procedure

    After enjoying breakfast, you have the option to spend your day exploring the many famous sights around Kathmandu. The city has a unique charm in the early morning as it slowly comes to life, but still remains relatively peaceful. You can choose to have a free day or take advantage of our offer to provide a knowledgeable, English-speaking guide who can lead you to some of the most significant sites and explain their history.
    Optional day tours:
    We offer a variety of optional day tours to choose from, including the Sacred Sites of the Valley, a full-day excursion to visit Swayambhunath, Pashupatinath, and you can also visit the UNESCO World Heritage Site, Boudhanath, and see the world's largest spherical stupa, or explore the largest and most sacred Hindu temple in Nepal.
    For those who want to venture outside of the city, a 30-minute drive will take you to the ancient city of Bhaktapur, known for its medieval art and wood carving. You can also take a one-hour mountain flight to see Mount Everest or go for Day hiking around Kathmandu valley or mountain biking in the scenic Shivapuri National Park, located on the northern edge of the Kathmandu Valley.
    After your day's adventure, you'll return to your hotel in the early evening where you'll meet with our specialist or one of their staff members who will provide you with a detailed briefing of your upcoming trip, including what to expect and transportation logistics.

  3. Day 03 Kathmandu to Pokhara (Drive)

    Starting the day with an early breakfast at your hotel, we'll set off on our journey to Pokhara. The road out of the Kathmandu Valley winds its way down the valley wall, offering breathtaking views of the surrounding hills, gorges, rivers, and villages that are unique to central Nepal.
    As we make our way towards Pokhara, we'll make a stop for lunch before heading towards the city. Our journey is made comfortable with the use of tourist buses, but if you prefer a more personalized experience, you may choose private vehicles or flights, which can be arranged at the time of booking.
    Upon arrival in Pokhara, we'll check into your hotel, and you'll have some time to explore the neighborhood. Take a leisurely stroll along the picturesque walkway by the lake, where you can find various interesting shops and restaurants. Don't forget to admire the stunning sight of Fishtail Mountain towering over the city.
    With the first day of your adventure now complete, you can unwind, relax and recharge for the exciting experiences that await you on the rest of your journey

  4. Day 04 Pokhara to Naya Pool (Drive) to Tikhe Dhunga

    After having breakfast at your hotel in Pokhara, you will begin your trek journey. A short drive will take you from Pokhara to Nayapul, which serves as the starting point of the trek. From Nayapul, you will embark on a hike through the beautiful landscape.
    The trail initially crosses a suspension bridge, and then you will follow the bank of the Modi River. As you continue, you will pass through the checkpoint at Birethanti. From there, the trail leads through the village and follows the north bank of the Bhurungdi Khola. During the trek, you will have the opportunity to traverse a bamboo forest and encounter several water streams and waterfalls along the way. The trail involves some steady ascending as you make your way towards the village of Tikhe Dhunga.
    Throughout this part of the trek, you will be treated to astonishing views of the Annapurna Mountain range, including peaks like Annapurna I, Machhapuchhre (Fishtail), Dhaulagiri, and Hiunchuli. The panoramic vistas and natural beauty of the surroundings will enhance your trekking experience. At the end of the day, you will reach the village of Tikhe Dhunga, where you will spend the night in a tea house or lodge. This village provides a glimpse into the local lifestyle and offers a comfortable resting place for trekkers.

  5. Day 05 Tikhe Dhunga to Ghorepani

    After having breakfast in Tikhe Dhunga, you will begin your trek journey for the day. The trail initially involves ascending further from Tikhe Dhunga. You will cross a beautiful suspension bridge near the village before starting a challenging section of the trek. The next part of the hike is more of a climb than a typical hike. You will encounter a steep stone staircase that consists of well over 3,000 steps leading up to Ulleri village. It's recommended to be prepared in advance for this strenuous section by engaging in activities such as taking stairs instead of lifts or elevators at home. This preparation will be advantageous in tackling the steep staircase.
    Once you reach Ulleri village and emerge from the forest, the trail becomes more gentle. You will be able to enjoy the surroundings as the trail crosses pastures and fields. The gradual ascent provides a chance to catch your breath and take in the natural beauty of the landscape. Continuing on from Ulleri, you will pass through Banthanti village and make your way towards Ghorepani. The trail from Banthanti to Ghorepani offers a more relaxed and pleasant trekking experience compared to the earlier steep ascent. You will trek through forests, enjoy the serene atmosphere, and be surrounded by the beauty of nature.
    Ghorepani is a popular rest stop and a highlight of the trek. It is a picturesque village located at an elevation of around 2,850 meters (9,350 feet). The village provides trekkers with comfortable tea houses and lodges where you can rest, enjoy meals, and spend the night.

  6. Day 06 Ghorepani to Tatopani (Morning hike to Poon Hill)

    The Ghorepani to Tatopani trek in Nepal offers a wonderful opportunity to explore the breathtaking landscapes of the region, particularly during a morning hike to Poon Hill. Poon Hill is renowned for its stunning sunrise views and panoramic vistas of the surrounding mountains. The majestic peaks visible from this vantage point include Himchuli, Nilgiri, Dhaulagiri, Tukuche, Annapurna South, Annapurna I, II, III, IV, Lamjung Himal, and Machhapuchhre (Fishtail). It is truly a photographer's paradise, providing ample opportunities to capture the natural beauty of the Himalayas in the early morning light. .
    After enjoying the mesmerizing sunrise and capturing enough photographs, you can savour a cup of hot tea to warm yourself in the chilly morning air while immersing yourself in the magnificent scenery. Once you have taken in the incredible views, it will be time to make your way back down to the lodge in Ghorepani, where a well-deserved breakfast awaits. .
    Following breakfast in Ghorepani, the journey continues towards Tadapani. The trail from Ghorepani to Tadapani initially involves a steep ascent until you reach the Deurali Pass. Once you have crossed the pass, the path becomes less strenuous, offering a more manageable terrain for your trek. As you traverse this section of the trail, you will have another opportunity to admire the mountains you previously saw from Poon Hill, allowing you to soak in the beauty of the landscape from a different perspective. .

  7. Day 07 Trek to Ghasa (1,190 m/3,900 ft) – 5 hrs

    On your trek to Ghasa, situated at an elevation of 1,190 meters (3,900 ft), you will embark on your first hiking day in the mountains, following a pleasant route that leads north along the Kali Gandaki Valley. This picturesque trail takes you through scenic farmland, rural villages, and terraced fields, offering a glimpse into the authentic local lifestyle. As you make your way, you will be treated to breathtaking views of the magnificent Dhaulagiri, Tukuche, and Annapurna peaks, enhancing the charm of the surrounding villages.
    In the morning, before starting your hike, you have the opportunity to enjoy a dip in the nearby hot water spring pool on the river bank, adding a refreshing experience to your journey. The newly developed path, away from the motor road, allows you to explore the region's natural beauty while providing a tranquil and serene atmosphere.
    Continuing on the trail, you will descend further and pass through Gadpar before reaching Kopchepani. From there, you will join the main trail and proceed towards Ghasa via Pairithapla. Ghasa is a peaceful village primarily inhabited by the Thakali people, who are indigenous to the region. This cultural immersion allows you to learn more about the local traditions and way of life.

  8. Day 08 Trek to Tukche(2,510 m/8,550 ft) – 5hrs

    On your trek to Tukche, located at an elevation of 2,510 meters (8,550 ft), you will embark on a journey through diverse landscapes and cultural transitions. The route follows the Kali Gandaki River, taking you through peaceful forests and leading you to the prominent settlements of Lete and Kalapani. As you progress further north, you will notice a significant change in the terrain, with the lush vegetation and forests giving way to a more arid, desert-like environment.
    Along with the changing landscape, you will also witness a shift in the local culture. The traditional Hindu practices of the lowland areas gradually transition to a Buddhist lifestyle as you ascend towards Tukche. This cultural transformation adds a unique dimension to your trekking experience, providing insights into the local customs and traditions.
    Tukche itself is a picturesque village surrounded by orchards and blessed with scenic beauty. It is renowned for its monastery and is known for producing a local brandy that has gained fame throughout Nepal. The local brandy from Tukche is a popular choice among many trekkers, offering a taste of the region's distinct flavours.

  9. Day 09 Trek to Kagbeni (2,900 m/9,500 ft) - 5 hrs

    During your trek to Kagbeni, situated at an elevation of 2,900 meters (9,500 ft), you can expect a relatively easy day of hiking at a gentle pace. The trail will lead you through the picturesque village of Marpha, renowned for its apple pies and once a popular stop on the Annapurna Circuit. However, due to road construction, tourism in Marpha has decreased in recent years.
    It is advisable to start your trek a bit earlier in the morning to reach Kagbeni before the strong afternoon winds that commonly occur along the Kali Gandaki River. These winds can be quite intense during the latter part of the morning and afternoon, making an earlier arrival preferable. Once in Kagbeni, you will have ample time to explore this beautiful town, which boasts a century-old monastery. Kagbeni is located just south of the restricted Upper Mustang region, adding a touch of intrigue to the area. Kagbeni's charm lies in its unique blend of natural beauty, cultural heritage, and its proximity to the remote Upper Mustang region. Take the opportunity to immerse yourself in the town's rich history and enjoy the serenity of the surroundings.

  10. Day 10 Trek from Kagbeni to Muktinath (3,855 m/12,635ft)- 4 hrs

    During your trek from Kagbeni to Muktinath, situated at an elevation of 3,855 meters (12,635 ft), you can expect a captivating and culturally significant journey. The landscape in this region bears a striking resemblance to the Tibetan Plateau, offering a unique and exciting experience. As you embark on this leg of your trek, you will be heading up the valley towards the renowned Thorung La pass, which is part of the world-famous Annapurna Circuit.
    The trail takes you through the scenic Jhong River valley, offering breathtaking views and marvellous scenery along the way. You will have the opportunity to pass through ancient villages, immersing yourself in the rich cultural heritage of the region. Muktinath, the ultimate destination of this trek, holds immense religious significance as a pilgrimage site for both Hindus and Buddhists. It is believed that visiting Muktinath can provide spiritual salvation from the sins of life, attracting devotees from various parts of the world.

  11. Day 11 Muktinath to Jomsom (2600m) 5 hrs

    After your visit to Muktinath, which holds significant religious importance for both Hindus and Buddhists, you will embark on a trek from Muktinath to Jomsom, situated at an elevation of 2,600 meters (8,530 ft). The estimated duration of this trek is around 5 hours.
    Starting with an early morning prayer at the temple and breakfast at your guest house, you will begin your descent towards Jomsom. The route follows an easy path that leads downhill, allowing you to relish the surrounding views, including the magnificent Mt. Dhaulagiri. As you retrace your steps, you'll also pass through Jarkot, where you have the opportunity to visit another monastery and appreciate the remnants of rich Tibetan culture, such as ancient caves and the influence of Tibetan traditions.
    Throughout the trek, you will be treated to splendid views of snow-capped mountains, with the majestic Nilgiri Himal (7,061m) and the Dhaulagiri range capturing your attention. The picturesque scenery and the cultural elements encountered along the way create a captivating experience. Continuing your descent from Jharkot, you will eventually reach the city of Jomsom. Known for its windy conditions, Jomsom is a bustling town situated in the Kali Gandaki Valley and serves as the district headquarters of Mustang.

  12. Day 12 Jomsom to Pokhara

    After enjoying breakfast at the hotel in Jomsom, we will make our way back to Pokhara by vehicle. Once we arrive in Pokhara, we will transfer you to your hotel, where you can settle in and enjoy the rest of the day at your leisure. This relaxed lakeside town is the gateway to the Himalayas, so you'll find plenty of cool cafés, restaurants, water activities, funky shops, and yoga studios that cater to ex-pats and adventure travellers.

    You have the option of catching a 30-minute morning flight from Pokhara to Jomsom, during which you can enjoy spectacular views of the mountains en route. Upon arrival in Pokhara, make yourself comfortable in your hotel and explore the town at your own pace. As the gateway to the Himalayas, Pokhara boasts a plethora of cool cafés, restaurants, water activities, funky shops, and yoga studios catering to ex-pats and adventure travellers.

  13. Day 13 Pokhara to Kathmandu (Drive)

    Once you finish your breakfast, it's time to set off on your journey back to Kathmandu. You can choose to board a comfortable tourist bus, which we provide for this route, or have your private vehicle arranged to pick you up from your hotel. Alternatively, you may even opt. for a 30-minute flight to Kathmandu, depending on your preference and requirements. Please remember to inform us of your choice while booking your trip.

  14. Day 14 Final departure
